To take the pill or not to take the pill

I found another interesting article in the online searching about things related to pharmacy.  I happened to come across this particular article......

http://www.remember.org/educate/medexp.html

This article talked about a lady was diagnosed with breast and kidney cancer that recently lost her job and her insurance was cut.  She said she had to pay over $700 a month on those medications alone.  Lucky she had the cash for those medications,  and she actually beat her cancers with the medication adherence and surgeries to remove her breasts and one of her kidneys.  But unlike her, many Americans are facing hard times and the escalating drug prices.  Doctors today when prescribing most of the times do not think about the prices for the drugs.  A lot of the time they prescribe medications that do not have generics....  Leading to high prices $$$.   With limited cash flow many Americans are faced with adherence problems and thus make our jobs harder daily.  Please read and comment on our thoughts about the article or the topic itself.

Roxys/Oxys

Here is a link of what's going in nationwide, but it's a really big concern here in south Florida.

http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-31727_162-20109031-10391695.html

Click this link and read about the oxycodone abuse that is happening right here in our backyard.  I know the government/DEA is working on a database to track pharmacies and doctors prescribing this medication, but I believe that there could be some kind of new technology that could give certain people up-to-date information on who is filling, writing, or doing anything with these and/or other abused drugs.  It's really a problem in the state of Florida.  Things need to be implemented ASAP to ensure a safer work environment for all that work in pharmacies where patients/customers try to fill these scripts.  What are your thoughts on this article?

Welcome!

Hey everyone,

This is Melvin, and thanks for stopping by my blog page.  This is my 1st post.  Many of you know me and possibly some of you don't.  But I would love to interact with everyone who stops by page so please make a comment on my posts.  I will answer you in a timely manner and hopefully keep everyone entertained and engaged.  I am very new at this online blogging world, but once I get the hang of this thing I will be updating very frequently.  My initial reason for starting this blog is for an elective I am taking for pharmacy school, but who knows I might like it.  Then, I could possibly keeping this up even after the class over.

Stay Tuned,

Melvin
